How do I know if I need a water softener?
The clearest signs are visible mineral buildup on faucets and showerheads, spots on dishes after washing, dry skin, soap that won’t lather, and appliances failing earlier than expected. If you’re seeing two or more of these in your San Jose or Sunnyvale home, you almost certainly have hard water worth addressing. We’ll confirm with a free test.
Do I need a permit to install a water softener in San Jose?
In most cases, residential water softener installations in San Jose and Sunnyvale do require a permit, particularly if any electrical or plumbing modifications are involved. We handle all permitting on your behalf, so you don’t have to.
How long does installation usually take?
A standard water softener install takes between 3 and 5 hours for most Bay Area homes. We aim to complete most jobs in a single visit, with full testing and cleanup before we leave.
Will a water softener add sodium to my drinking water?
Salt-based softeners add a small amount of sodium to your water, but the amount is much lower than people often assume (typically less than what’s in a slice of bread). If sodium is a concern, salt-free systems or dedicated drinking water filtration are both good alternatives we can recommend.
How often does the system need maintenance?

Can a water softener fix my dry skin and hair?
Many of our customers tell us this is the single biggest day-to-day improvement they notice after installation. Soft water lathers better, rinses cleaner, and doesn’t leave the mineral residue that dries out skin and hair.
Are water softeners worth the cost?
